Team Savvy had the opportunity to create the official launch video for SEGA's Genesis Nova, unveiled at the 2025 G2E Convention. This high-energy production takes viewers on a cinematic journey through space, where a mysterious space traveler races through a cosmic portal before revealing SEGA's exciting new gaming product.
And while the finished video looks like it was filmed somewhere in the far reaches of the universe, the magic actually started right here on Earth, with a little creativity, some practical filmmaking, and a whole lot of movie magic!
We Didn't Just Film a Space Traveler. We Built One!
One of the coolest parts of this production was creating the space traveler's look.
Rather than simply relying on digital effects to create everything, we designed and built the spacesuit and the chair the space traveler sits in. Both were created practically, right here in-house by Team Savvy.
That's right! Our team designed and constructed the costume and prop before the cameras even started rolling.
Building practical elements gives us more control over the look, feel, and interaction of what's happening on screen. It also adds real-world detail that helps sell the illusion when everything comes together in post-production.
It's one of the things we love about creative video production. Sometimes the best way to make something look amazing on screen is to actually build it!
Green Screen Filming Meets Out-of-This-World Visual Effects
Once our space traveler was suited up and ready for action, it was time to film.
The production was shot on a green screen, giving us the creative freedom to take our subject somewhere a little more exciting than our studio.
In post-production, we used visual effects, compositing, and motion graphics to transport our subject into an entirely different world. Cosmic environments, incredible space visuals, and dynamic effects helped turn our green-screen footage into an immersive journey through the universe.
This was a particularly VFX-heavy project, with visual effects playing a major role in creating the final look and feel.
The goal wasn't simply to put someone in front of a space background. We wanted to create an experience that felt cinematic, energetic, and exciting enough to introduce a new gaming product.
And that's where the real movie magic happens!
